NDMU Mace

The symbols emblazoned on the torch-shaped mace fittingly illustrate the Marist Education and the Vision-Mission of the university.

The top portion of the mace is illustrated by a symbolic flame with superimposed seal of the university surrounded by eleven
roses. The flame symbolizes light as a result of Christian education; the seal captures the university ideals that students who are recipients of the Marist Education should serve God, country, and neighbor as men and women of character; competence, and culture. The roses are symbolic representation of the 11 core values that the university holds namely: Family Spirit, Marian, Simplicity, Love of Work, Presence, Preference for the Least Favored, Quality Education, Integrity of Creation, Honesty, Justice and Peace, and Culture Sensitive.

The base of the flame has three violets supported by the emblems “A” and “M”. The three violets and the emblems “A” and “M” are the earliest symbols of the Marist Brothers representing the virtues of St. Marcellin Champagnat and the role of the Blessed Mother as their patroness.

The handle of the mace is divided into three parts signifying the three levels of educational programs that the University offers: graduate, undergraduate, and basic education.

Embossed on the upper portion of the handle are the noble laurels that denote excellence in education.
